Lukas Cober was born in 1989 and raised in Aachen, the city on the tripoint of Germany, Belgium and the Netherlands. Between 2010 and 2015 he studied product design at the Maastricht Academy of Fine Arts and Design as well as the Faculdade de Belas Artes Lisboa. During his studies and the years that followed, he put his talent, technique, and energy at the service of Valentin Loellmann, a renowned designer based in the Netherlands. As a very physically working person and a skilled craftsman these years have taught him how to lead his creative energy towards an artistic vision.
In 2018 he started focusing solely on his own work, creating unique pieces and collections in his eponymous studio. In just over two years, he developed a singular identity whose recognition was not long in coming. He collaborates with several internationally renowned galleries in Europe and the United States.
Besides, in 2021, through the Gosserez Gallery, The Mobilier National acquired his coffee table "New Wave" and is now part of the French government's Mobilier National collections.
Studio Cober is an interdisciplinary design studio for objects of aesthetic expression through shape and materiality. Lukas Cober emphasizes the value and beauty of the chosen raw material to create minimalistic objects that remain timelessly beautiful. His priority clearly focuses rather on a feeling that the material and the shape might arouse then the function of the object itself. It might be a chair, a bag or a lamp. Not the function matters but the mutual integrity. Thinking about each product as a static sculpture he creates a conversation between materiality and shape with a pure outcome.
