Cotton and pins
Unique piece
Simone Pheulpin maintains a privileged relationship with this unbleached cotton that feeds her work, permeates it and guides her most precise movements. Yet she also knows how to distance herself from this material that appears to be an extension of her very self and that she directs rather than sculpt. With a strip of cotton and a couple of pins - next to nothing in the grand scheme of things - she builds brave new worlds filled with cliffs and rifts, rock fragments, peculiar fossils and wondrous coral reefs that reach over oceans and heavenss, accidentally giving birth to wonders in their wake. Eclipse XIII stands as a curiosity, like the reassembled fragment of a distant yet familiar planet. Made of compressed, folded fabric, this out of this world object is shaped as if to reach out to a past era that never was or perhaps to defy eternity.
