Gold anodized aluminum, carved, folded and assembled by hand
The use of geometry aims to convey the shape of a natural phenomenon with as few elements as possible in an attempt to determine how far this effort to rationalize and simplify can go without betraying the original expression of the source phenomenon. The geometry in itself revolves around a mosaic of convex hexagonal elements that have 5 different heights and different open sides. The core axis is composed of the largest and most open hexagons. This project was designed to explore the possibility of creating an intimate inner space where to store our hopes and expectations, through a wall sculpture in which desires, secrets, projects, prayers written on slips of paper can be squeezed in the secret recesses. The general shape of the sculpture takes its inspiration from the shell colonies that can be found on the Chilean shores, stuck to the coastal rocks and cliffs. It brings back childhood memories of beach, unlimited happiness and infinite hope.
As for the sculpture's structure, it is made of gold anodized aluminum, that was laser carved then folded and assembled by hand - the perfect combination of craftsmanship and digital technologies.
