Born in Nancy, Gérald Vatrin graduated from the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Epinal and from the CERFAV, the European Center for Glass Arts Research and Training. Combining craftsmanship and art history knowledge, Gérald Vatrin expresses himself through various media including painting, sculpture and engraving. His favorite material though, is glass. He discovered this particular vehicle for artistic expression during his extensive travels. He indeed traveled every continent and met a whole array of different cultures and arts. Glass, as a material that can be worked only when molten and that solidifies when cold, enables the artists to magnify it by varied techniques such as engraving, pigmentation and the interplay of opaque and transparent. Gérald's artworks are cold to the touch yet vibrate with light and warmth. They bear witness of the multiculturalism that defines every aspect of his life.
His works are now displayed within the permanent collections of the Victoria and Albert Museum in London.
